Timberwolves Hold Off Spurs in Tense Game 4, Lead Series 2–1

Anthony Edwards erupts for 36 points as Minnesota claws back in the fourth quarter; Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper keep San Antonio fighting with under two minutes to play

With just over a minute remaining in Game 4, the Minnesota Timberwolves cling to a four-point lead at Target Center, looking to go up 2–1 in the Western Conference Semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs. After a back-and-forth 48 minutes that has showcased some of the most electric play of the 2026 postseason, this one is far from over.

San Antonio rallied in the third quarter outscoring Minnesota 28–20 to take the lead into the final frame, but the Wolves' bench has been exceptional tonight — 29 points from reserves keeping Minnesota afloat when the starters needed rest. The Spurs' own bench answered with 37 points, led by Dylan Harper's relentless 22-point, high-efficiency night.

Victor Wembanyama has had a difficult evening, picking up a flagrant foul and shooting just 2-of-5 for 4 points in what has been a rare off-night for the superstar big man. San Antonio will need more from him as De'Aaron Fox (24 pts) and Stephon Castle (20 pts) have been doing the heavy lifting.

Minnesota's dominance on the glass has been a key storyline — 56 total rebounds to San Antonio's 46, with Rudy Gobert hauling down a double-double and 6 offensive boards. San Antonio has compensated by getting to the paint at a superior clip, connecting at 77% at the rim, but turnovers (14) continue to plague their half-court sets.

The Spurs' 12 steals tonight speak to their defensive intensity — yet Minnesota has converted 21 points off turnovers. This series has seen wildly contrasting scores: a Minnesota blowout-worthy 133–95 win for San Antonio in Game 2 now feels like a distant memory.
